The Commission on Sustainable Development meets annually as a high level forum on sustainable development which reviews progress and monitors and reports on implementation at the national, regional and international level.

The Division of Sustainable Development promotes a debate about the responsibilities of governments and society at the international, national and regional levels to promote sustainable development in all its aspects: food, energy, industry, population growth, global warming and pollution.

The topic of the migration was one the themes connected with sustainable development that was discussed during this session. Sustainable development must consider not only the variable of energy, industry, air pollution, and climate change, but also the variable of the population. In this context, international migration was recognized as a fundamental element for the integration between sustainable development and equitable development.
