8th Sessions’ Period of the Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Migrants at the UN

The 8th Sessions’ Period of the Committee for the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and of their Families was held from April 14th to the 25th, 2008 in the headquarters of the United Nations Human Rights Commission in Geneva-the Palais Wilson. During these sessions, the Committee considered the reports presented by the governments of Bolivia, Afghanistan, Colombia and El Salvador on the protection of the rights of all migrant workers and their families.

SIMN participated at these sessions and presented a document with some normative and administrative observations to the reports of the Bolivian and Colombian governments. (See attached documents: Document 1; Document 2). The SIMN’s document presented concrete proposals on the protection of the migrant workers and their families. Specifically, SIMN insisted on the necessity that the governments of Bolivia and Colombia outline an explicit migratory policy that can produce a new migration law that would allow the homologizing and harmonization of the current migration laws with the international standards in the field of the protection of the rights of the migrant workers and their families.
