Radio Migrant broadcast Muticom and the charisma at the service of migrants  

With the support of the Scalabrini International Migration Network (SIMN) Radio Migrantes participated in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in the Mutirão on Communications in Latin America and the Caribbean (Muticom) which brought together eighteen Latin American and Caribbean countries.
 
From February 3rd to February 7th, various organizations, representing Pastoral Communication Ministries, religious congregations, journalists, social movements and the media, discussed projects toward the building of a communication system committed to peace, justice and solidarity.

 The main theme was: Communication Processes and a Culture of Solidarity in the continent. It was discussed through conferences, seminars and workshops.
 
Also noteworthy was the workshop on Communication and Migration attended by several Scalabrinian missionaries. During the workshops, the missionaries shared with the researchers, their recent studies on Brazilian migration, human trafficking and digital communication tools for migrants.
 
The Scalabrinian Radio Network, was introduced into the dynamics of the event, working in the Mutirão. It broadcasted through Radio Migrantes in connection with Radio Mutirão. Radio Mutirão was made up by a team of journalists and technicians that produced material and interviews to be shared and exchanged among all participants. Radio Migrantes took advantage of its participation to become better known, distributing its material and partnering with other people and broadcasters. Working in the broadcast were: journalist Roseli Lara Rossi, who prepared the materials for Radio Mutirão and the Scalabrinian Radio Network; publicist Camila Aparecida Panassolo, who was responsible for the technical department, the bulletins and the constant updating of the Blog News Radio Migrantes; Father Mario Zambiazi, responsible for the technical and logistical support and Father Sergio Gheller who was the general coordinator.

At the end of the Muticom, the "Carta de Porto Alegre," was issued. Compiled from the debates of the meeting, the document recommends a communication system directed toward a culture of solidarity.

The next Brazilian Mutirão on Communication is scheduled from July 17th to the 22nd 2011 at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. The discussion will center of  issues related to human mobility, reflecting on Communication and Life: Diversity and Mobility.
